Ballots are in the mail, and Question 2 is the one most people will skim and guess on. The commission that oversees Chief Election Officer Scott Nago has not met in four months. On October 16, the Hawaii Supreme Court heard why. Commissioners Ralph Cushnie and Tamara McKay petitioned the court to order the Office of Elections to provide the staff support that Hawaii requires. The hearing was set to private after its livestream on the State YouTube account, but thankfully a good citizen captured it on screen recording:

Two laws signed in 2025 put the State of Hawaiʻi behind the payments owed under new power purchase agreements (Act 191) and opened HECO's grid to independent producers starting in 2027 (Act 258).
